Märkischer Jugendchor

The Märkische Jugendchor (MJC) of the Karl-Friedrich-Schinkel-Gymnasium in Neuruppin is a mixed youth choir , which mainly consists of students of the Gymnasium.

The choir was founded in 1967 by Hans-Peter Schurz as a school choir and directed by him until 2005. Lorenz Heimbrecht followed him for two years. Ulrike Schubach has been the choir director since 2007. The choir's repertoire includes predominantly a cappella pieces from the Renaissance to the modern .

The Märkische Jugendchor presented world premieres in concerts and on the radio and has received several awards. For the 30th anniversary of the choir, a CD was released with the title Red Thorn My Childhood . In its long history, various choral tours have taken him both within Germany and to other European and non-European countries. The longest and longest journey in recent years made the choir in 2011 together with the choir of the Protestant High School Neuruppin to the USA.
