The 1988 built and 1991 Mærsk M-Class is a class of Panamax - container ships of the Danish shipping company AP Moller-Maersk . When they were built, they were the world's largest container ships.
The series was built and delivered between 1988 and 1991 by the Danish Odense Staalskibsværft . She continued the development of the similar ships of the previous Mærsk L-Class (1980) and Mærsk L-Class (1983) . The customer for the series was the Copenhagen-based shipping company Maersk Line , with A / SD / S Svendborg & Dampskibsselskabet af 1912 A / S acting as the owner. The shipping company used the M-Class ships on the transatlantic route.
The M-class ships are among the Panamax container ships and have a capacity of around 4,300 TEU, 500 spaces can be filled with refrigerated containers. The ships have nine holds equipped with cell guides. Six of the cargo holds closed with pontoon hatch covers are in front, three behind the three-quarters aft. The main engines used were among the most powerful diesel engines on the market at the time.
