The Mèbre is a 13 km long river to the west of the city of Lausanne in the canton of Vaud of Switzerland . Together with the concern, it belongs to the Chamberonne water system , drains a section of the Vaud Central Plateau and is part of the catchment area of the Rhone . The course of the river was first mentioned in 1357 as Meybry .
The headwaters of the Mèbre are located at around 800 m above sea level. M. on the forest heights of the Jorat , on the ground of the municipality of Le Mont-sur-Lausanne . The Mèbre flows with a relatively constant gradient to the west in an erosion valley that is always sunk around 20 to 30 m into the adjacent Molasse plateau and is mostly wooded. It forms the southern boundary of the Gros de Vaud region .
At Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne , the Mèbre gradually draws an arc to the south in the direction of the Lake Geneva basin and now enters a deeply carved valley that is spanned by a viaduct from the A9 motorway . In earlier times the Mèbre flowed through the farming village of Renens , today the stream runs underground for a distance of around 1 km. The confluence of the Mèbre and Sorge rivers is near the former Dorigny mansion. The body of water is now called Chamberonne and, after a further run of around 1 km, flows into Lake Geneva on the western edge of Lausanne .
The hydropower of the Mèbre has been used in various places since the Middle Ages , especially near Crissier and Renens, for the operation of mills, sawmills and forges.
