Merille

The red wine variety Mérille is a very old variety from the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in southwest France and was widespread there.

The variety produces light, neutral and simple red wines that are mainly used as blending partners. Today it is still grown in small quantities in the appellations of Côtes de Bergerac , Bergerac , Côtes-du-Frontonnais and in the country wines Côtes du Tarn and Côtes de Gascogne . It is also cultivated in Argentina . The currently planted area in France is 139 hectares (as of 2002).

There is a genetic connection to the Prunelart grape variety .

Petite Merille is a synonym for the Milgranet grape variety .

Synonyms

The Mérille grape variety is also known under the names Baluzat, Balouzat, Bordelais, Bordelais Noir, Meril, Mérille Großes, Petit Piquart, Pica, Picard, Plant de Bordeaux, Perigord, Ponchou, Pouchon and Saint-Rabier.
