Location of Möbeck in Wuppertal

The location of Möbeck or Möbbeck in the Sonnborn residential area in the Elberfeld-West district of Wuppertal goes back to an old farm name. The location is overbuilt by the Sonnborn Cross .

The Sonnborn industrial area, in which the Möbeck gas tank is located, is sometimes called the Möbeck industrial area.

Etymology and history

Möbeck was first mentioned in a document in 1217. It belonged to the courts of the Gerresheimer Stift . In the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, Möbeck was part of the parish and the Sonnborn community in the Bergisch Amt of Solingen .

In 1457 Möbeck is mentioned as "Mobach" and in 1591 as "Medtbeck". The basic word Beck is a Low German form of Bach.

Today's streets

The street Möbeck , east of the core of the original location and west of Kirchofstraße , is named after this location with an unknown naming date . It appears for the first time in the address book in 1890/91. Another street called Möbecker Straße was named on June 17, 1890, it is located southwest of the core of the original location and near the original location Am Thurn . The road was expanded in 1896/97.
