Mørupsten

The Mørupsten is a stone from Larvikit , a coarse-grained rock that only in South norway west of the Oslo fjord can be found. It is located in the Midtjylland region in Jutland in Denmark , just outside the south-west of Herning and south-east of Snejbjerg, south of the motorway 15 (Herningmotorvejen), near the overhead line at Bliddalvej.

Larvikite is called lead rock because it leads to the source of the original ice flow . With an estimated weight between 400 and 500 tons, Mørupsten is one of four large erratic boulders ( Vandreblokk in Danish ) ( Dybbølsten , Janum Kjøt and Tirslundstein ) in Jutland and the fourth largest boulder in Denmark from the Ice Age . In the late 1920s, the then owner of the property tried to blast the stone with dynamite, which failed. In 1932 the stone was placed under protection.
