Life
Kadri lost her mother as a baby and was adopted by distant relatives who had no children of their own. So she grew up in a wealthy family in the Çamlıca district . She was tutored by private tutors who also discovered her artistic talent.
At the age of ten she began to take a serious look at the arts and received lessons from Osman Hamdi Bey from 1907 to 1910 and then drawing and watercolor lessons from Salvatore Valeri (1856-1946), a professor of Italian origin at the Academy of Fine Arts ( "Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi", today Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi ). She also had piano lessons, learned the violin and classical instruments such as oud and kemençe .
At the urging of Hamdi Bey, she sent some works to an exhibition in Munich, where one painting was awarded a gold medal. She became a music teacher at an Istanbul girls 'school and later also taught art and embroidery at the Istanbul girls' high school. She also taught the daughter of Sultan Abdülhamid II. As a composer, she set several poems to music .
In 1911 she took part in the exhibition in the salon of the Istanbul Opera Society with five paintings. Only a few weeks later, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis . This was so advanced that a cure was no longer possible. She died the following year. After her death, 40 of her works were sold for the benefit of the Ottoman Association of Painters.
She was buried in the Karacaahmet cemetery in her hometown. Her tombstone bears an inscription by the famous calligrapher İsmail Hakkı Altınbezer .
