The mill between the cities is a listed former watermill in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The watermill registered in the Quedlinburg monument register is located west of the historic Quedlinburger Neustadt and east of the old town on the banks of the Mühlgraben at the address Zwischen den Städt 4. Immediately north of the mill is the Steinweg.

Architecture and history

The site has been occupied as a mill site since 1332. In that year the Wipertikloster sold the mill to the city of Quedlinburg. The name between the cities results from the location on the border between the Quedlinburg old and new towns.

The mill building dates from the baroque and is covered with a mansard hipped roof. In addition, a gate wing and a half-timbered courtyard wing still existed at least at the end of the 20th century . The buildings were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1842 the mill became the property of the Kratzenstein company, which also operated several other mills in Quedlinburg.

In the 1920s, a brick stepped gable was placed in front of the mill building .

Like several other mills in Quedlinburg, the mill between the cities was then closed in the period between the world wars.
