Karl Hermann Vigl (born May 6, 1939 in Lengmoos , Ritten , South Tyrol ) is a South Tyrolean choir director , conductor and composer . He became known primarily as a publicist and through his media activities.

Act

Vigl was born in Lengmoos as the son of the teacher, organist , bandmaster and composer Karl Vigl (1898–1965). In 1959 he successfully passed his high school diploma . He has lived in Meran- Obermais since 1991 .

Teaching

Like his father and a grandfather, Karl Hermann Vigl also took up the teaching profession.

He worked as a primary school teacher in Tiers , Kaltern and the Sarntal , then library manager in Bolzano , then from 1972 to 1978 as a German teacher at the Italian secondary schools in Bolzano, Neumarkt and Laives , and then again as a primary school teacher in Branzoll , Montiggl and Girlan .

Musical work

Vigl studied piano , organ and violin . In the military he discovered his love for the horn . He completed private studies and courses in music theory with Andrea Mascagni ( theory of composition ), Henk Badings , Oswald Jaeggi , Hugo Herrmann and Helmut Degen as well as twelve-tone technique with René Leibowitz . Then he studied music palaeography in Cremona with a focus on neumas , early polyphony , liturgy and vocal - instrumental chapel practice.

In addition to his work as a teacher, Vigl led several choirs and bands, from 1959 to 1961 the church choir and the music band in Tiers, then from 1961 to 1964 the Sarnthein music band and from 1961 to 1971 the men's choir (MGV) Gries , from 1963 to 1977 as the youngest Bundeschorleiter the Südtiroler Sängerbund ( South Tyrolean Choir Association since 2010 ), from 1965 to 1977 the JE Ploner singing group in Laives , from 1968 to 1973 the Lehrersingkreis Bozen, from 1974 to 1977 the MGV Meran , from 1977 to 1983 the Tramin women's choir and from 1978 to 1984 the music band Branzoll . Since 1989 he has been leading the Neumarkt Church Choir. During his time as federal chorister of the South Tyrolean Singing Association, he focused on the implementation of the vocal-instrumental principle "cantare et sonare" through the interaction of winds and singers. His compositions are mainly assigned to so-called utility music.

In 1980 he became a member of the Südtiroler Künstlerbund , where he headed the music department from 1980 to 1990. In 1974 he was a founding member of the International Society for Research and Promotion of Brass Music (IGEB), where he was on the board from 1988 and became vice-president in 2000. In 2009 he was made an honorary member of the IGEB.

Media activities

From 1968 Vigl worked as a freelancer in the program department at Rai Südtirol for serious music . From 1975 to 1979 he was editor-in-chief of “South Tyrolean Folk Culture”, which is published by the Association of South Tyrolean Music Bands (VSM) as an organ of the regional association for home care in South Tyrol . From 1981 to 1995 he was a reviewer in the culture section of the South Tyrolean daily newspaper Dolomiten .
