Oswald Jaeggi

Oswald Albin Jaeggi (born January 3, 1913 in Basel , † April 25, 1963 in Glarus ) was a Swiss clergyman, composer and church musician .

Life

His parents were Oskar and Luise Jaeggi, geb. Allemann. Jaeggi entered Einsiedeln Abbey in 1932 after completing his training in Basel . After his ordination in 1937, he began studying at the Pontifico Istituto di Musica Sacra in Rome . He received his doctorate in 1948. Jaeggi worked as a collegiate bandmaster and taught at the collegiate school in Einsiedeln. In 1950 he went to the Muri-Gries Abbey near Bolzano . There he worked as a conductor and organist, founded a chamber choir and a church music study library. From 1960 he was responsible for the church music program of the radio in South Tyrol .

Jaeggi mainly composed sacred music . He wrote works for choirs and organ as well as chamber and brass music . Most of his works are specifically geared towards the needs of the liturgy .
