Girlan ( Italian Cornaiano ) is a fraction of the municipality Eppan in Überetsch in South Tyrol ( Italy ). It has approx. 2800 inhabitants on 7.18 km², is located at 433 m slm and is about 10 kilometers from Bolzano . The fraction consists of the actual village of Girlan with a historic center and surrounding farmsteads, which are grouped together in the Schreckbichl district to form a second small settlement center.
history
Girlan is an old settlement area used for agriculture , favored by its location and fertile soils. The German formed name forms (1085/97 Curilan , 1166 Gurlan , 1186 Gurilan , 1265 Gurlan , 1316 Gürlan ) stand next to the Romanesque (1210 Corneianum ). Early on, the wine industry represented the dominant commercial sector of the local population, which is why numerous manors had possessions here in the Middle Ages , such as the Bishops of Trient , the Counts of Eppan-Ulten and the Upper Bavarian Steingaden Monastery . As early as 1272, the Girlan neighborhood ( communitas de Gurlano ) was granted the right to present the chaplain to the local church, which she had founded, but the dispute over parish rights and income with the pastor of St. Pauls near Eppan did not become apparent until the 17th century Adjusted self-employment. A list of members of the community of Girlan and the district of Schreckbichl ( universitas ville Guerlan et loci Schreckpuhel ) has come down to us from 1324 , in which representatives of the community cede common land to the Stams monastery , whereas the convent is to restore the local St. Martin's chapel Committed. Some residences with stone-framed windows, courtyard arches and bay windows still bear witness to the early modern prosperity of the place.
Attractions
The parish church is consecrated to Saint Martin of Tours and characterizes the historic town center. The cemetery, which was expanded in the 1980s, is located on the western outskirts. The grave of a Sinto “resident” in the area , Vincenzo Naumann († 1987), called Guido, is noteworthy and is still visited and cared for by his relatives. Naumann's grave is the last new grave to be found in the old part of the cemetery.
economy
There are two medium-sized cellar cooperatives and several private wineries in the wine village of Girlan : Cellar Cooperative Girlan, Cellar Cooperative Schreckbichl , Cellar Martini & Sohn, Sektkellerei Martini Lorenz, Winery Alois Warasin, Winery Josef Weger and Winery Niederist.
Every year on 11 November, the Girlaner place Martinimarkt instead of as the " Last Judgment is called". That name of the market on the one hand due to the age and the Purpose of Animals (Slaughter), which were previously distended to the market and, secondly, because the reading of the Last Judgment in the fair falls on this day.
The Girlaner Kellerfest has been held every four years on the first weekend in September since 1990.
