history

In Altenburg there was once a castle near today's St. Vigil Church, which was first mentioned in 1195. It was presumably built by the Counts of Eppan . It was probably in ruins from the 17th century. The remains that were still visible around 1900 have now completely disappeared. The location itself is first documented in 1332 as "Altenburga" in a Traminer record.

About 400 m north of the hamlet, in the valley ditch of the Rastenbach and on the slope of the St.-Peter-Bühel, fluorite was mined in two tunnels in a north-south direction in the porphyry until the 19th century .

Churches
