Frangart ( Italian Frangarto ) is a fraction of the municipality Eppan in South Tyrol ( Italy ). It has about 800 inhabitants and is 255 m above sea level. d. M. west of the banks of the Etsch near Bozen .

location

The village of Frangart is located on the slope of the Überetscher plateau and also includes the adjoining lowlands of the Adige Valley . The orographically right bank of the Adige near Frangart is an important traffic junction between Bolzano, Merano and the Überetsch communities of Appiano and Kaltern . The village of Frangart is shaped by fruit growing and viticulture, tourism and the large fruit sales companies in the valley.

The parish church in the town center, built in 1894/95 according to plans by the architect Ferdinand Mungenast in the neo-Gothic style, is consecrated to St. Joseph of Nazareth . On the east facade there is a representation of Our Lady of the Munich mosaic company Rauecker & Solerti from 1903 (based on a design by Heinrich Told from Bozen). In 1997 the church received a new organ.

Sigmundskron Castle from Frangart

The Sigmundskron Castle , one of the oldest castles in South Tyrol, is located a little away from the village on a rocky hill towards the east and already in the area of ​​the neighboring municipality of Bozen . It has housed one of the Messner Mountain Museums since 2006 .

Above the village center in the private park of the Hochfrangart residence is a silver ball that can be seen from afar. An artistic installation by the art collector Karl Nicolussi-Leck .
