St. Michael ( Italian San Michele ) is a fraction of the municipality Eppan in South Tyrol ( Italy ). As the main town in the municipality, it is usually called Eppan .
location
St. Michael is located in the center of the municipality of Eppan at an altitude of 415 m slm. With an area of 12.60 km², it is the largest fraction of the municipality. It is located at the junction of the densely populated Überetsch , where the historic road connections towards Berg , Pigeno, Montiggl and Girlan converge. However, these do not meet at a single location, but are linked to the main road between Kaltern and St. Pauls, which is oriented in north-south direction, at offset points. This created a network-like road system that largely determined the type of settlement and did not allow a uniform center to emerge. Rather, several clusters of buildings developed, in the center of which there is usually a church. These settlements, some of which are real “villages in the village”, are still clearly recognizable today despite the expansion and massive densification of the building stock that began at the end of the 19th century. Today's center of St. Michael is formed by the town hall and the former inns Sonne and Goldene Traube , whose main facades face the town hall square in front of it.
culture and education
In St. Michael there is a kindergarten, a primary school and a middle school for the German and Italian language groups, in which the students from the entire municipality come together. The culture hall is located in the JG Platzer secondary school building .
There is also the Lanserhaus , which is used for a variety of events such as art exhibitions, museum events, concerts, seminars, congresses or gastronomic meetings.

There are several churches near the center of the village, including the parish church of the Visitation of Mary , the Church of St. Archangel Michael and the Church of St. Joseph . The Holy Cross Church with its nine calvary chapels is enthroned on the Gleif hill a little west of the village .
Sports
The sports zone includes the ice stadium Eppan , in which HC Eppan Pirates plays, adjoining it is the Raiffeisenhalle with climbing walls and bowling bar. Near the sports are the artificial turf soccer field and the traditional shooting range, where various annual competitions like the Martini shooting , years shooting or the village shooting will take place.
