Ladainha , officially Portuguese Município de Ladainha , is a Brazilian city in the northwest of the state of Minas Gerais .
According to official estimates, Ladainha had a population of 18,111 inhabitants in an area of 865 km² in 2019. The city was part of the Vale do Mucuri mesoregion and the Teófilo Otoni microregion from 1989 to 2017 .
geography
Ladainha is located on the Rio Mucuri at an altitude of 670 meters, 65 km northwest of Teófilo Otoni and 515 km from the state capital Belo Horizonte . Adjacent are Novo Cruzeiro , Malacacheta , Poté , Teófilo Otoni , and Itaipé .
history
The settlement began in 1926 with the construction of 61 houses for the workers of the Bahia-Minas Railway. The train station was named Ladainha do Podô , after an old man named Podô, who was known for his rosary prayers, which is called Ladainha in Portuguese .
It became an independent administrative unit in 1949.
economy
The main economic activities are services, small industry and agriculture. A large part of the population lives in the country and operates subsistence agriculture . The gross national product in 2005 was R $ 33 million, with R $ 24 million from services, R $ 3 million from industry and R $ 5 million from agriculture. There were 2,330 farmers on 35,000 acres of land. In 2006 only 15 farms had tractors. About 6,300 people were dependent on agriculture. The main crops are bananas, coffee, sugar cane, beans and corn. There were 14,000 cattle (2006). In 2007 there was only one bank and 312 automobiles and 598 motorcycles; H. a ratio of 53 inhabitants per automobile.
In 2000, the median monthly income of R $ 72 was well below the average of R $ 276 in the state and R $ 297 in Brazil.
Health and education
In 2006 there were five medical practices ( health clinics ) and one hospital with 23 beds. Patients with serious illnesses are brought to Teófilo Otoni. Schooling is provided by 24 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 pre-school. In 2006 there was a PUC Minas campus with fewer than 100 students.
