Unterrain ( Italian Riva di Sotto ) is a fraction of the Italian municipality Eppan in South Tyrol .
location
The Unterrain fraction is located in the north of Eppan, bordering the communities of Andrian and Terlan, at an altitude of 247 m slm in the middle of an apple- growing landscape in the Adige Valley . Most of the settlement area already merges into the valley floor of the Etsch and is therefore much lower than the rest of the Überetscher municipality. The villages of St. Pauls , Missian , Frangart , Andrian and, on the opposite bank of the Etsch, Siebeneich border on Unterrain .
history
In Unterrain there was a customs post - attested as early as 1434 under the name " am Perkmann " - which has been preserved to this day and is a listed building. Opposite the former customs building is a small church, which was dedicated to St. Nicholas (protector of merchants and travelers).
