Siebeneich ( Italian Settequerce ) is a fraction of the municipality of Terlan in South Tyrol ( Italy ).

Siebeneich is located near the Adige on the orographic left , eastern side in the Adige Valley between Bozen and Meran , just northwest of the Bozen valley basin. The village is located at 247 m asl and has 844 inhabitants (June 25, 2008). It is surrounded by apple trees and vineyards.

history

The place is important in early history thanks to the excavations from the Iron Age in the Brigl corridor and from the time of the Raetians , which are concentrated in the so-called Holy Corner .

The village was first mentioned in a document in the years 1182–1187 as "Sibenaiche" in the tradition book of Wessobrunn Monastery , which owned land here. In the late 15th century there were disputes between the village community of Siebeneich and Terlan with that of Gries near Bozen over agricultural rights of use in the extensive moss area on the Adige , which Prince Sigmund of Austria-Tyrol tried to mediate in 1470.

The parish church of the Holy Heart of Jesus and the Church of St. Antonius in the Deutschhaus (House of the Teutonic Order ) are of interest in terms of art history .

The Großkarnell residence is remarkable (the name comes from the former Karnellenhof), which used to belong to the Counts of Selva and is popularly known as the Siebeneichner Schlössl .

The castle ruins of Burg Greifenstein (popularly called Sauschloss ) rise high above the small village . Halfway up is the Chapel of St. Cosmas and Damian , a medieval pilgrimage site.

present

The place has a Raiffeisen bank, a small supermarket, a kindergarten and a primary school.

Only a few minutes away from Siebeneich are the provincial capital Bozen , Merano and the Burgrave Office . These places are easy to reach, as Siebeneich is on the Bozen – Meran railway line and on the Alte Meraner Strasse.
