The Roen ([ roˈen ]; Italian Monte Roen ) is at 2116  m slm the highest mountain of the Mendelkamm on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino .

Location and surroundings

The Roen is roughly in the middle of the Mendelkamm, which extends from north to south and is part of the Nonsberg group. Like the other mountains of the mountain range, it drops steeply to the east into the lowlands . On the South Tyrolean side, at the foot of the mountain, is the wine town of Tramin ( 276  m ). From the west, the Roen appears much less prominent. There, the Bergstocks area is divided among the Nonstal communities of Amblar-Don , Predaia and Sfruz .

Climbs

From the north of the Roen is Mendelpass over the farmed Roenalm (Italian Malga Romeno ) distance. There are two ways to climb from the alpine pasture to the summit. The easier route leads directly to the summit plateau as a hiking trail. The variant via the Überetscher Hut ( 1775  m slm ) to the northeast of the summit and further on a secured via ferrata is somewhat more demanding . Another ascent reaches the summit plateau coming from the south.
