The Liesing – Kalksburg electric trolleybus was a trolleybus operator in what was then the southern region of the Austrian capital Vienna . From July 11, 1909 to January 1920, the line connected the then still independent town of Liesing with the communities of Rodaun and Kalksburg, which were also independent at the time . In addition to passengers, mail was also transported.
Route
The 3.8-kilometer route began at Liesing station on the Südbahn , followed the entire length of Breitenfurter Strasse (today's B 13a ) and ended at Jakob-Sommerbauer-Strasse in Kalksburg. The depot was also located there, and the building has been preserved to this day.
The Mercédès-Électrique-Stoll system was used . As is generally the case with this system, the four cars each had a four-wheeled contact car for power pick-up and wheel hub motors . The route was completely single-lane, if two cars met, they had to stop briefly - typical for the Mercédès-Électrique-Stoll system - and exchange the feed lines to the contact carriages. They then drove on with the pantograph of the oncoming car.
Another trackless railway in what is now Vienna's urban area was the Gleislose Bahn Pötzleinsdorf – Salmannsdorf , it ran from 1908 to 1938. In addition, the trolleybus Vienna (line 22) ran from the Währinger Gürtel to Salmannsdorf between 1946 and 1958 .
