The Vienna Liesing train station is located in the 23rd district of Liesing and is a regional transport hub in the south of Vienna. The station is located together with a park-and-ride car park and the expressive post office on Liesinger Platz, which was built in 1931. There are other public buildings in its vicinity, such as the Liesing Office , the House of Encounter, Liesing Castle and the Liesinger Bad. The former premises of the Liesing brewery with the “Riverside” shopping center, which opened in 2010, is also in the vicinity. In the station area, all tracks cross the Liesing .
construction
The station is divided into a passenger station and a freight station, in which the freight trains to the south are formed. Due to its location near the city limits, it is the last train station on the Südbahn , which is located in Vienna's municipal area. The station is served by S-Bahn trains and some of the regional train lines ( double-decker trains) of the Südbahn, long-distance passenger trains do not stop. There is a P + R system and a B + R system at the train station .
history
The then independent municipality of Liesing was connected to the southern railway line in 1841 as part of the “Vienna – Gloggnitz Railway” . Since 1883, the station served as the starting point for the Kaltenleutgenz Railway , which was discontinued in 2014. Further branches or sidings, which have now been closed and largely removed, led from 1882 to the Liesing brewery, the Liesing industrial center (" Schleppbahn Liesing "), the Ludwig furniture factory , later a building materials factory and a coal merchant.
The Breitenfurter Straße crosses the station area over a reinforced concrete bridge with wrought iron lattice built in 1910.
