The Alterlaa station of the Vienna U-Bahn on the U6 line in the 23rd district of Liesing is located in an elevated position above Anton-Baumgartner-Straße , west of B224 Altmannsdorfer Straße and south of Liesingbach . It was opened in 1979 as a station on express tram line 64 of the Viennese tram and was finally converted into an underground station by 1995.
To the north-west of the station is the Alterlaa residential park , the largest non-communal residential complex in Austria, and the Alterlaa shopping center . The station offers transfer options to the bus lines 60A, 64A, 66A and 67B and has a spacious Park & Ride facility. At night the station is approached by the NightLine , on weekends and public holidays the underground runs continuously. The N64 line only stops here from Monday to Friday, when the Astax N64 is waiting to continue to Siebenhirten after ordering by telephone . The N66 stops here every day.
To the south-west of the station is the Rößlergasse parking and inspection hall, where part of the U6 line is stationed. Due to the low-traffic south branch of the U6, the Alterlaa station was the terminus for every second train until mid-May 2020 during rush hours in the morning and in the afternoon on working days, except Saturday. From May 11, 2020, every train will go to Siebenhirten .
