The Vienna Floridsdorf train station is the most important traffic structure north of the Danube in Vienna and is located in the 21st district . In addition to the actual train station for regional trains and the S-Bahn, it also includes an underground station . This is where both the northern end of the main S-Bahn line and the northern terminus of the U6 underground line are located . Together with numerous shopping facilities, public facilities such as the municipal district office and numerous transfer options to regional buses, the station forms a suburban center.

history

The history of the steam train in Austria began on November 19, 1837 with the first journey from Floridsdorf to Deutsch-Wagram. The locomotive “Austria” pulled 8 cars with 164 people and took 24 minutes for the 13 km long route.

In 1838 the line was extended to Vienna, in 1839 to Brno and in 1846 to Krakow.

In the 1960s, today's station was opened about 600 m further south and on January 17, 1962, the first train of the Wiener Schnellbahn ran from Floridsdorf to Gänserndorf. With the expansion of the U-Bahn line 6 to Floridsdorf, the express train station was rebuilt at the same location and opened on May 4, 1996.

The central platform of the U6 is in the basement, the areas of the S-Bahn are in an elevated position above a pedestrian passage that leads to Franz-Jonas-Platz.

The station

The train station is an important transfer hub, there are four tram lines , five city bus lines , three night bus lines , several regional bus lines and the shuttle bus to the G3 Shopping Resort Gerasdorf .
