The Kagran station (formerly: Zentrum Kagran ) of the Vienna underground line U1 is located in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt . The name corresponds to the district of Kagran , whose name is derived from a Count Chagre who owned land in the area in the 12th century. The above-ground station was opened on September 3, 1982 under the name Zentrum Kagran and until 2006 was the northern end of the U1 line. In 1989 it was shortened to the current station name.
The station extends roughly between Donizettiweg and Prandaugasse and has a central platform . From the covered and enclosed platform area, escalators , fixed staircases and elevators lead to the eastern reception building under the subway structure, where there is also a Wiener Linien advance booking office. The exits lead via swing doors to the east and west to Dr.-Adolf-Schärf-Platz and the Danube Center . The centrally located elevator and the western exit lead to the Donauplex entertainment center.
Until 2006 there was a storage hall for trains of the U1 north of the station. With the opening of the sixth section of the U1 , this was abandoned and relocated to the Leopoldau station. The bus lines stopping in front of the station lead mainly to the eastern parts of the Donaustadt: 26A goes to Essling and on to Groß-Enzersdorf , line 27A towards Hermann-Gebauer-Straße, line 93A to U2 station Aspernstraße and the Line 94A to Stadlau . Tram line 25, which runs from Vienna Floridsdorf train station to Oberdorfstrasse in Aspern , also stops here .
The station counts because of the numerous transfer options to bus and tram lines, the local authorities and educational institutions (Vienna International School) around the station, but also because of the neighboring Danube Center, which is the largest shopping center in Vienna with a total area of 225,000 m² Kagran to those with the liveliest public traffic along the U1.
The Albert Schultz ice rink , which opened in 1995, is also nearby .
