The Aspernstraße station is located in a high position between Aspernstraße and Erzherzog-Karl-Straße . From October 2, 2010 to October 5, 2013, it was the eastern terminus of the U2 underground line in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt , and since the extension to Seestadt , roughly every second train coming from Karlsplatz has ended here .

The Aspernstraße station is due to its location in the center of the Aspern district , directly on Donau Straße (B3), a central traffic junction in the east of the city. In addition to the U2, five bus lines have their terminus here. In addition, line 26A ( Kagran - Groß-Enzersdorf ) and regional bus lines from Marchfeld go to the Aspernstraße station. The station thus creates a connection between the lines from the surrounding districts of Hirschstetten and Essling and the eastern part of Vienna to the underground.

The station was opened on October 2, 2010 with the opening of the third section of the U2 between the stadium and Aspernstrasse.

It is double-track and has an island platform with several exits to Erzherzog-Karl-Strasse and Aspernstrasse. A three-track turning system is located next to the station , trains can turn around here automatically. Offices and apartments as well as a shopping center are under construction in the immediate vicinity of the station.
