Lutheran Church in Breinermoor

The Lutheran St. Sebastian and St. Vincenz Church in Breinermoor , municipality of Westoverledingen ( East Friesland ), was built as a hall church in 1784 .

history

The current church was built to replace a chapel that stood in the cemetery 400 meters away. After the completion of the church, the chapel was demolished. A narrow bell tower was added to the west of the ship. Three round-arched large windows on the two long sides let light into the church.

Until 1925 the parish had its own pastor. Since then she has shared a pastorate with Backemoor . On June 1, 2012 the parish was united with the Vincenz and Laurentius parish in Backemoor to form the new Evangelical Lutheran Vincenz parish Backemoor-Breinermoor in Rhauderfehn.

Interior

inner space

The interior of the church is closed off by a wooden barrel vault . Various furnishings come from the previous building. The hexagonal pulpit above the altar dates from 1686. Originally, it formed a unit with the altar until it was redesigned in the 19th century. The last supper by Leonardo da Vinci is repainted in oil on canvas on the altar . A chalice donated by Lubbe Jansen in 1664 belongs to the Vasa Sacra . The chandelier dates back to 1751. The organ was created around 1874 by Gerd Sieben Janssen with nine stops on one manual. Over the years several modifications were made. The case and partly the pipework have been preserved. A dating of the organ to around 1860 is unlikely due to the neo-Gothic design.
