The Hausfeldstraße underground station is a high station on the Vienna underground line U2 in the 22nd district of Donaustadt . It is part of the 4th expansion stage of the Vienna subway. It was created as part of the extension of the U2 line from Aspernstrasse to Seestadt Aspern and was opened on October 5, 2013. Together with the Wien Hausfeldstrasse stop of the ÖBB , which opened in 1987 and was parallel to the underground station on the Marchegger Ostbahn , it formed a transfer point before it was closed on October 1, 2018; Since then, the connection between the U2 and the Ostbahn has been made by the Aspern Nord station .

construction

The underground station is located west of Hausfeldstrasse, parallel to the Marchegger Ostbahn (railway line Vienna – Bratislava) running north of the station. It has two tracks with a central platform in a single elevated position. The eastern exit leads to Hausfeldstrasse, which passes under the U2 and Marchegger Ostbahn. The turning loop for tram 26 and the bus routes that end here is located on the southern station forecourt . From the western exit, an underpass leads to Hasibederstraße. A turning system was built east of the station.

history

The ÖBB stop used to consist of an electrified stump track , where the S80 had its start and end station, and a platform on the continuous track in the direction of Marchegg . Immediately after the end of the platform to the east, Hausfeldstrasse crossed the track. After the decision that the U2 should have a stop here as part of the extension to Seestadt, the ÖBB began to replace the level crossing between the railway and Hausfeldstrasse with an underpass in order to allow better access to the underground station. This also created space for the extension of tram line 26, which went into operation together with the U2. When the ÖBB built this underpass, the embankment was built in this section for two tracks and the old Hausfeldstraße station was completely demolished. Since then, the trains on the S80 line began and ended in Vienna Hirschstetten , and the wooden platform temporarily built on the embankment for the second track was now served by REX trains between Vienna Central Station and Bratislava and regional trains between Vienna Central Station and Marchegg. On October 1, 2018, the train stop was abandoned and replaced by the Vienna Aspern Nord stop.
