The Dresdner Straße station is an underground metro station on the Vienna U6 line in the 20th district of Brigittenau . It was opened on May 4, 1996 when the second section of the U6 Spittelau – Floridsdorf was opened. It is named after the street named in 1875 after the Saxon state capital Dresden .
The station is located twice below the Hellwagstrasse. Exits lead through small reception buildings onto Hellwagstrasse and Pasettistrasse. It has a central platform, escalators and elevators and is therefore barrier-free. The streets around the exits are designed as pedestrian zones or traffic-calmed.
The subway station is crossed by Meldemannstrasse , where between 1905 and 2003 the homeless asylum men’s residence Meldemannstrasse was located, which became famous because of the young Adolf Hitler who lived here between 1910 and 1913 . In 2003 it was closed and renovated. After that, work began on converting a senior citizens' home called “Seniorenschlössl Brigittenau”, which opened in 2009.
It is possible to change to tram line 2 in the direction of Friedrich-Engels-Platz or in the direction of Dornbach and to bus lines 5A in the direction of Nestroyplatz or Griegstraße and 37A in the direction of Dänenstraße. The night bus line N29 also stops here outside the operating hours of tram line 2.
