The Längenfeldgasse station is a crossing station of the Vienna underground lines U4 and U6 in the 12th district of Meidling . It is the only station on the Vienna subway where two lines intersect at the same level. The namesake is the Längenfeldgasse in Meidling, which was named after the benefactor Josepha Haas von Längenfeld-Pfalzheim in 1894 . The station extends between the height of Längenfeldgasse and the height of Storchengasse, parallel to Schönbrunner Straße and the Wien River .

Old ramp that led from the Otto-Wagner-Wientalbrücke to the Meidling station, the area of today's station

The Längenfeldgasse station was opened on October 7, 1989 as a replacement for the original Meidling Hauptstrasse branching station of the Vienna steam light railway , which opened in 1898 and which in turn was replaced in 1925 by the Vienna electric light rail . This is only about 400 meters to the west and is now only served by the U4 line. The prerequisite for the construction of the station was the demolition of the ramp in the form of masonry light rail arches , which led from the Otto-Wagner -Wientalbrücke to the Meidling station. With that, a small city quarter along Dunklergasse disappeared in the 1980s. The station has two central platforms. The two outer tracks, spanned by catenary, are used by the trains of the U6 line, those with conductor rails in the middle of those of the U4. From the U6 trains going into the city, you can transfer directly to the U4 trains, which are also going into the city, and vice versa, usually waiting for connections. The platforms of the U4 and U6 lines have different heights, depending on the boarding conditions of the cars. For route maintenance, there are track connections between the two routes to the southwest of the platforms, despite the different conditions.

The station has two above-ground reception buildings. The one facing into the city leads to Längenfeldgasse. The branch of a large Viennese bakery is located here and you can change to the 12A bus in the direction of Possingergasse. The reception building facing out of town leads to Bruno-Pittermann-Platz , via this you can get to bus line 12A in the direction of Eichenstraße. There is a public toilet facility here.
