The Braunschweiggasse station is a station on the Vienna subway line U4 in the 13th district of Hietzing . The street named after the owner of the Palais Cumberland not far from Schönbrunn Palace and honorary citizen Hietzing Wilhelm von Braunschweig .

history

Originally, the, on behalf of the Commission for traffic installations in Vienna built, station Upper Wientallinie the Vienna steam rail which, from the train station Hütteldorf-Hacking for Meidling main road led. The construction of the reception building was completed in June 1896, and operations began on June 1, 1898. From 1925, the Vienna Electric Light Rail began operating as a replacement . The original architectural character of the station with the typical elements of Otto Wagner has been lost due to the severe damage caused by air bombs on February 21, 1945. The resumption of the discontinued operations on the Upper Wientallinie took place on June 27, 1945, but the Braunschweiggasse station itself could not be reopened until November 28, 1948. In the years 1979 to 1982, the renovation to the current appearance took place - the panel system of the architectural group U-Bahn - which characterizes all Vienna underground stations. The station extends parallel between the bed of the Wien River and the busy Hietzinger Kai and has two exits: in the direction of Braunschweiggasse and in Jenullgasse, located in Vienna's 14th district of Penzing .
