The Mühlensee is a 51.4 hectare artificial lake in the municipality of Oberkrämer in the Brandenburg district of Oberhavel . The lake was dammed in 1979 to irrigate the area for agricultural use. It has been part of the Nauen-Brieselang-Krämer landscape protection area since the early 1990s .

location

The lake is located in the small country Glien in the municipality of Oberkrämer between the districts of Vehlefanz , Schwante and Neu-Vehlefanz. Surrounded by the lake is the vineyard in Vehlefanz, where wine was still grown up into the 19th century.

The lake is fed by the paddock and the Hörstaben. It is a lime-rich, layered lake with a relatively large catchment area of 33 km².

Trophic and chemical characteristics

The profile according to the EU Water Framework Directive certifies the Mühlensee 2017 an ecological status of 5 ("bad") on a five-point scale. The quality components macrophytes / diatoms show a value of 4, phytoplankton a value of 5. The chemical status is rated 3 (“moderate”). The LAWA trophy index in 2014 was 4.7. This made the lake weakly hypertrophic .

use

After the large farm in Oberkrämer grew more fruit and vegetables in the 1970s, this made more intensive agriculture necessary. In particular, the plants had to be watered more than before. To ensure this irrigation, the Mühlensee was built between Vehlefanz and Schwante. In addition to irrigation for agricultural purposes, especially for the Schwanteland farm , the lake is now used as a local recreation and fishing area. Fish that are being fished for are pike, carp, pikeperch and eel. There are beavers and otters at the lake. However, bathing is not advisable due to the phosphorus and nitrate pollution in the lake.

Between 2011 and 2014 public authorities built a circular path around the lake. Since it was sometimes not possible to use the bank, part of the path lies on several footbridges that are up to 190 meters long. The footbridges go right through the water, as they were built on the community's land after not all owners of the bank had approved the development. A service building is also being built at the post mill in Vehlefanz, which will include toilets and seminar rooms for school classes.

Every year participants from all over Germany camp by the lake who take part in the summer camp of the Evangelical Free Church community.
