The mill stump (also: Auerbacher Mühle ) in the Auerberg district of Bonn is located on the street An der Rheindorfer Burg 9 about 80 meters west of the Rheindorfer Bach . The mill was built on a hillside in 1831 and is now used by local scouts as a meeting place. The mill plinth, popularly known as the "Müllestumpe", is the remnant of a large number of windmills in the area and namesake of the house at Müllestumpe , a hotel and restaurant facility located northwards.

history

A post mill in the area of Graurheindorf is already shown on a drawing of the course of the Rhine from 1620 . A French map by Jean Joseph Tranchot from 1807/08 indicates a windmill at the current location. In 1831 this mill was replaced by a tower windmill of the Dutch design . The top-slewing mill had a hood that could be turned into the wind and was operated until 1899; at that time it became the property of the city of Bonn. At the beginning of the 20th century, the structures of the mill were laid down, only the base remained. The substructure with its large entrance gate subsequently served various purposes: ice cellar, warehouse, workshop or stable. The platform received a railing and was used as a lookout point. As a relic of the building and technical tradition, the mill stump was placed under monument protection.

In 2007, the mayor of Bonn, Bärbel Dieckmann , handed over the mill as a club home to the Friends of Bonn Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts . The subsequent renovation included a roof repair, the uncovering of the walled-up gate entrance, the insertion of a gate and the insertion of a false ceiling with stairs. Up to the present time, however, due to the associated expense and the refusal of the neighboring community of heirs to connect to their property, neither water nor sewer connections nor electricity could be connected. The tower on the slope is still to be sealed. The renovation work was financially supported by Aktion Mensch , the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation , the Bonn Community Foundation and the Sparkasse KölnBonn .
