The Münchner Bücherschau junior has been held annually since 2006 and is one of the most important cultural events in Munich in terms of children's and youth culture as well as reading promotion . The organizer is the " Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels - Landesverband Bayern eV" in cooperation with the cultural department of the city of Munich . The exhibition for children's and young people's books is based on the “ Munich Book Show ”, which takes place annually in late autumn in the Gasteig .

Every spring, children's and youth book publishers present their publishing program on nine days at different locations in Munich . The exhibition is open every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., admission is free for visitors.

The extensive book and children's media exhibition of the “Münchner Bücherschau junior” has been presented in the Munich City Museum since 2011, before it was a guest at the Munich City Hall Gallery. Among other things, books, audio books, children's CDs, (learning) games and apps for children are on display.

The exhibition is complemented by an extensive children's and family program, as well as a school class program with readings and events related to books. In workshops of the Kultur & Spielraum association, the little visitors can get creative themselves and realize their own small book projects.

Children and family program

The children's and family program takes place on the weekends and on Friday afternoons. Children's and young adult book authors read from their latest books, there are excursions to book locations such as publishers and bookshops or to other cultural institutions such as the Bavarian State Opera or the Bavarian Radio in 2013. Informative evening events for parents and educators on the subject of reading promotion or on the latest publications in the field of children's and young people's books round off the program.

School class program

The extensive supporting program of the Munich Book Show junior for kindergarten groups and school classes takes place on weekdays in the Munich City Museum and in the International Youth Library in the Blutenburg .

In the mornings there is the opportunity to meet the people who are involved in the creation of a book: authors, editors, etc. Here, questions can be asked of the authors during readings in order to find out how the stories and characters are and how the book came about. The aim is to give the children an insight into how stories are created and direct access to books.

Demand for these offers was particularly high in the past and has therefore been continuously expanded. Priorities are also set (e.g. Dutch children's and youth literature).

The school class program takes place in cooperation and with the support of the Department for Education and Sport of the City of Munich.
