Munich Book Show in Gasteig

The Munich Book Show is a book exhibition in Munich .

It has been organized since 1959 by the “ Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels - Landesverband Bayern eV” in cooperation with the cultural department of the city of Munich . In contrast to many other book fairs, there is no trade, the event serves exclusively to present books and media. The book show takes place every autumn in Munich's Gasteig cultural center and lasts 18 days. Visiting the exhibition is free. The Munich Book Show has been one of the three pillars of the Munich Literature Festival since 2010 .

Every year over 300 German-language publishers , including many from Munich, are exhibitors . This presentation is complemented by a broad supporting program with national and international authors from different genres. The show covers the following thematic groups: fiction , audio books , children's and young people's books , art and culture , Bavarica , knowledge and technology , non-fiction and guidebooks and calendars .

The school class program addresses schools and day-care centers in Munich and the surrounding area. In the mornings there are numerous readings and discussions with authors of different ages. The Kultur & Spielraum association offers creative activities for children in numerous workshops on the subject of books.

Over the past few years, over 160,000 visitors have been counted. The Munich city library with its central library, the event program of the Munich adult education center and the cultural program of the Gasteig also contribute to the success of the Gasteig , which attract “walk-in customers” interested in books.

Since 2006, the children's and youth book exhibition Münchner Bücherschau junior has been taking place in spring , which is aimed specifically at children and young people, kindergartens and schools as well as educators and parents.
