The coin find from Linnaniemi was made in 1894 on the outskirts of Linnaniemi, near Hämeenlinna ( Swedish Tavastehus ) in Finland .

Linnaniemi is on the east bank of the Vanajavesi , opposite the medieval castle. The treasure dates from the 11th century. The place has been called Varikonniemi since 1992 , but the coin find is still called "Linnaniemi" because it was known by that name.

At a depth of about 40 cm, 56 coins and a necklace with nine coin pendants and four other pendants, a horseshoe-shaped silver buckle, two filigree silver beads and two ax-shaped silver pendants were found next to a large stone. The necklace is made of silver coins and jewelry from different parts of Europe and the Middle East. Leena Tomanterä (1946–2016) believes that the necklace is complete. She describes it as the “ Danegeld style”, in which parts from several origins were combined in one piece, possibly as a status symbol. She describes the construction as a chain connected with rings with pendants hanging from it.

Around 7000 coins from the Viking Age have been found in Finland . The largest groups consist of Germany (3800), the Caliphate (1700) and England (1000).

The finds cover the period from 800 to 1100 AD. From Häme ( Swedish Tavastland ) 10 hoards with silver objects are known. These are buried precious metal deposits containing eastern and western silver coins, silver brooches and fragments, and in some cases silver bars (as raw material). Tavastland's silver treasures date back to the 11th century when the Vikings brought large quantities of precious metals to the Baltic States and Finland.

In 1996 a similar chain was found in Hämeenkoski . An ornament of the same kind was found in Hauho .

The treasure is in the Suomen Kansallismuseo in Helsinki.
