The Munzing Chemie GmbH is an existing since 1830, family-run chemical company in Heilbronn . The company's founder and namesake Friedrich Michael Münzing was the first from Wuerttemberg to succeed in the synthetic reproduction of sulfuric acid. Today the company is a global manufacturer of additives .
history
The company was founded in 1830 by Friedrich Michael Münzing (1807–1879) in Heilbronner Badstrasse / Frankfurter Strasse as a sulfuric acid factory. It was the first factory in Wuerttemberg , the sulfuric acid synthesized by the lead chamber process was able to produce. Founder Münzing had received a state prize of 5,000 guilders for his synthesis and built the factory with this money.
Production was expanded to include soap in 1831, Glauber's salt in 1833 and stearin , olein and glycerin in 1841 . In 1847 other products such as iron vitriol and matches added to the product range. The company built a second production facility at Heilbronn Winterhafen, and from 1845 to 1878 the acid was produced on Neckargartacher Strasse in Heilbronn. After the end of sulfuric acid production in 1878, the company traded as Stearinkerzenfabrik Münzig & Comp. In 1918, production was expanded to include oil as a wetting and emulsifying agent for the Heilbronn paper industry , including stains and glues .
During the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944, the factory buildings in the suburb of the station were destroyed. The reconstruction began in 1947 at Salzstrasse 174 in Heilbronn and production was expanded to include additives for the leather industry.
After the Second World War, the company concentrated on five sales divisions: leather auxiliaries, auxiliaries for the paper industry, auxiliaries for the paint and varnish industry, auxiliaries for wastewater treatment and special products for the chemical industry.
Through the acquisition of several subsidiaries in Italy, Spain, Holland, the USA and China, the company, which continues to operate under the management of the Münzing family, has become a leading international supplier of chemical additives as Münzing Chemie GmbH .
Heilbronner Münzingstraße is named after the founding family Münzing, who also distinguished themselves through their social commitment .
