Mạc Đăng dung
Mạc Ðang Dung (* 1483 , † 1541 ; posthumously given imperial temple name Mạc Thái Tổ ) was a high military officer at the court of the Lê dynasty . He achieved a dominant position at the court, weakened by intrigue and rebellion, and used this to proclaim himself emperor as the founder of the Mạc dynasty .
background
The Mac family derived their origins from Confucian scholars. As partisans of the Trần dynasty and the Chinese occupation, the family was sidelined after the Lê dynasty came to power .
Officer at the court of the Lê emperors
Mạc Ðang Dung was born in the fishing village of Co Trai in the east of the Red River Plain . He worked as a fisherman and was also known for wrestling. However, he also received Confucian training and passed the military officer exam. In 1508 he got a post with the palace guard under Emperor Lê Uy Mục . During the turmoil of the rebellion, Mac rose to the rank of court and from 1516 made it military leader and commander of the palace guard with decisive political influence at court. He first consolidated the dynasty and defended it against a rebellion by Trân loyalists. Mac deposed the two Lê emperors Lê Chiêu Tông and Lê Cung Hoàng in order to finally establish his own dynasty in 1527 with his accession to the throne.
Domination
Mac was able to consolidate the rule of his dynasty and his power in the capital Hanoi . In terms of foreign policy, he achieved recognition of his rule by the Ming emperors of China. Mac reintroduced an old tradition of Trân rulership. Around 1530, he appointed his heir to the throne sovereign and, as the former emperor, remained politically and administratively in the background. From 1533, under Emperor Lê Trang Tông , loyalists of the Lê dynasty founded an opposing state in what is now Annam, and Vietnam slid through its rule into division and a long civil war.
