M-wing of the University of Bremen
The M-wing of the Bremen University of Applied Sciences in Bremen - Neustadt , Langemarckstraße 116 / Neustadtswall 30, is one of the most important buildings in Bremen .
history
Since 1892 the Senate planned to set up a technical trade school . In 1894 the city set up the technical center in the south-west wing of the school on Langemarckstraße (at that time the school on Kleine Allee ) in Neustadt .
From 1903 to 1906, a three-storey, historical new building with a higher basement and pitched roofs was built across from this school on Langemarckstrasse according to plans by the Building Inspectorate under the direction of architect Hugo Weber . The facade with echoes of the Renaissance consisted of bright red clinker bricks and structures made of sandstone. The fronts graced a barockisierender tower with a multipart spire and the gable of the wings.
1914, the pilot plant was named Technical State colleges with departments construction and civil engineering , mechanical engineering , electrical engineering, shipbuilding and aerospace engineering, ship engineering school . The name Technikum was popularly known, although the school changed its name more often.
The building was partially destroyed in World War II. After the war, repairs were made to the building, but without the reconstruction of the tower, gable and gable roof; further extensions followed. The wing, which is mostly used by the mechanical engineering students, was called the M wing . The Bremen University of Applied Sciences grew out of the technical center .
The M-tract was from 2000 to 2002 by one floor for seminar rooms according to plans by Wolfram Dahms increased and Frank boilers (Bremen). The modern facade of this storey in glass and gray parapet elements as well as the transparent roof contrasts with the historical facade. The inner courtyard was abandoned and rooms for the library were created.
In front of the building there is an overturned monument from the time of National Socialism and a plaque with the inscription: "In memory of the victims of both world wars and a warning to peace".
Today (2014) there are rooms in the M wing for Faculty 5 Nature and Technology - Mechanical Engineering Department, the Technology and Social Affairs branch of the State and University Library Bremen and the AStA office.
