The MT Abraham Center for the Visual Arts is a non-profit organization. The center is headquartered in Paris ( France ) and its collections are kept in Geneva, Switzerland . The center was founded by the descendants of Mansur Tamir Abraham after his death in 1999. The declared aim of the center is to promote public recognition for European and Russian modern art through the collection of works of art that can be loaned “for the exclusive purpose of display and study by public institutions”.

Collections

Since 2011 the center has owned over 300 works by more than 50 artists. In line with the objectives of the center, the focus of the collection is primarily on European and Russian modernism of the late 19th and 20th centuries from various genres of post-impressionism , constructivism , cubism , cubo-futurism , neo-primitivism, rayonism , and suprematism Futurism .

The center has a complete collection of sculptures by Edgar Degas . Aside from the MT Abraham Center for the Visual Arts, only four museums in the world have nearly complete collections of his bronze sculptures since 2010. The Degas sculpture collection has been loaned to the National Art Gallery in Sofia , Bulgaria , the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in Israel Israel , and the Instituto Valenciano of Arte Moderno .

The organization was first established in 2004 by the family of Mansur Tamir Abraham. MT Abraham was born on April 27, 1912 in Aden , Yemen , when the country was still under British occupation. In the following years Abraham developed into a legal expert on African and Asian legal norms and was awarded the George Medal by Great Britain for his work . In addition, Abraham was a meticulous and avid art collector who focused primarily on Russian and Western European artworks. Many of the works he collected were considered insignificant at the time. MT Abraham died on January 9, 1999 at the age of 86.

In 2004, his children and grandchildren established the center on the basis of and with the help of his various collections. The current president of the charitable organization is Amir Gross Kabiri (2012).

As already mentioned, the declared mission of the center is to promote public recognition for Russian and European modern art . The center has a loan program. It also supports public exhibitions by renowned institutions that do not have sufficient funds themselves.

The centre's educational mandate is based on the support of "exhibitions that promote respect and understanding for art, its history, its context and its meaning." Educational programs for children and young adults carried out by artists, educators and other art experts, accompany the exhibitions sponsored by the center. In addition, the center offers young artists and students support in their study of Judaism .
