The MA Aziz Stadium ( Bengali এম এ আজিজ স্টেডিয়াম ; also known as Chittagong Stadium) is a multifunctional stadium in Chittagong , Chittagong District , Division Chittagong , Bangladesh . It is mainly used for cricket and soccer .
history
During the Bangladesh War in 1971, the Curcuit House , which overlooks the stadium, served as the army headquarters. In 1981, the Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman was murdered in a failed military coup in the stadium .
Capacity and infrastructure
The stadium now offers space for 30,000 spectators. The two ends of the wicket are called the Pedrollo End and Ispahani End .
International cricket
The stadium was used for international cricket from 1988 to 2005. The first One-Day International was held here during the Asia Cup in 1988 between Bangladesh and India . The first test was held here in November 2001 during a tour between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe . Since 2006 international games have been played in Chittagong at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium . Until then, eight tests and 10 ODIs had taken place here.
National cricket
In the 2013/14 season have been in the Premier League Bangladesh held here ten games.
Soccer
During the AFC Challenge Cup 2006 numerous preliminary and final round games were played here.
