The M108 is a self-propelled howitzer with a caliber of 105 mm made in the USA . Their development began during the Cold War in the 1950s.
The M108 uses the same hull and turret as the M109 , but instead of the 155mm weapon system, it uses a 105mm howitzer. Most of the US Army specimens were withdrawn from use shortly after the start of the Vietnam War , as the larger caliber of the M109 was considered more suitable for modern conflicts.
