MAD (Eisenach)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MAD was a large discotheque in Eisenach, Thuringia . The name is an acronym for "Music, Action and Dance". With around 35,000 guests per month, the MAD was the largest discotheque in Thuringia.

The discotheque consisted of a large dance floor ( Mad-Maxx ), where, in addition to the in-house DJs, there were also nationally known DJs, such as Heinz Felber . Furthermore, music of other styles, such as rock or oldies , is played in a smaller adjoining room ( string jump ) . A total of 4,000 guests can be accommodated.

history

The MAD was opened in January 1995 and at that time was located on the upper floor of a shopping center in the Eisenach district of Hötzelsroda , with a size of around 2,000 m². After three years the area was increased to 2,700 m². In October 2005 the MAD opened in the area of the new leisure facility "Eisenach-Arena" in the district of Stregda , directly at the exit Eisenach-Mitte of the then federal highway 4 (since 2010 section of the federal highway 19 ).

The MAD received the title Best German large-capacity disco at the presentation of the German Disco Award in June 2006. In the same year, the 3,333,333. Guest celebrated. After several weeks of shooting, the MAD broadcast Spiegel TV Extra with the title “Da geht was! - Disco fever in the provinces ”.

In June 2010 the large discotheque was closed and later sold.

criticism

The MAD secured numerous media appearances through the controversial surveillance methods. The recordings were viewed by 62 cameras from a surveillance center; no German disco had more surveillance cameras. The video data was stored for half a year on a server with a capacity of 8 terabytes .
On top of that, visitors with membership cards were able to take advantage of some of the disco's discounts, such as free entry to certain events. However, ordered drinks and the order time were saved on the membership card. This enabled the operators to create complete user profiles and adapt the offer accordingly.
