Choceň Castle
The Choceň Castle (German: Chotzen ) in the village of the same name Choceň in Okres Ústí nad Orlicí belongs to the Pardubický kraj in the Czech Republic .
history
The Choceň Castle probably stands on the site of a medieval fortress , which is said to have been built by the robber baron Nikolaus von Pottenstein and which was destroyed in 1339 by the then Margrave Charles IV .
In 1562, Sigismund von Schellenberg had a manor house built, which in 1574 was expanded into a four-wing palace in the Renaissance style. Under the Bohemian Chancellor Wenzel Norbert Oktavian Graf Kinsky , the castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style from 1710 to 1720 . Count Stephan was raised to prince in 1746. After a fire in 1829, Rudolf Kinsky renovated the castle. Wilhelmine von Kinsky arranged for the palace chapel to be built between 1849 and 1850, which was built in the neo-Gothic style and dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary . After the abolition of the subordination, the castle remained in the possession of Prince Kinsky until it was expropriated in 1945.
