Mouloudia Club d'El Eulma , MC El Eulma for short or just MCEE or often also mentioned under the nickname El Babia , is an Algerian football club from El Eulma , the second largest city in the province of Sétif . The club currently plays in the Algerian Ligue Professionelle 2 and took part in the CAF Champions League in 2015 .

Club history

Founding history (1936–1962)

The association was founded in 1936 under the name Defense Saint-Arnaud . As early as 1942, some sports fans founded another team called L'Olympique Musulmane de Saint-Arnaud (OSMA) before the club split up in 1948 and an offshoot of the team was formed under the name Widad Saint-Arnaud . In 1950 the clubs finally merged to become MC Saint-Arnaud . After the sports enthusiasts in today's El Eulma had already merged to form the fifth syndicate Union Saint-Arnaud in 1954 , the club had to dissolve in the course of the Algerian War and increased migration of players to Sétif .

Five years later, in 1959, a group headed by Abdallah Qasimy again founded a football club under the name l'Etoile Filante de St. Arnaud (EFSA) , which was largely friendly to the French occupiers, which helped establish the club. In 1960 it was renamed Rapide Club Saint-Arnaud (RCSA) .

After independence (1962–1999)

After Algeria's independence in 1962, the club was renamed again after its old name MC Saint-Arnaud , who was then active in some regional leagues in eastern Algeria, where more derbies were held against ES Setif , USM Setif , CS Constantine and MO Constantine . Only a short time later, the club received its final club name by renaming Saint-Arnaud in El Eulma with MC El Eulma . With Amar Rouaï , a national player and later active midfielder in France at SCO Angers , the club had a central role model. A first major success could be achieved in the 1966/67 season by reaching the junior cup final, in which MSP Batna, however, was defeated. In the 1972/73 and 1973/74 seasons, the team narrowly missed promotion to the top division of Algeria. After the death of El Eulma politician Messaoud Zougar in 1987, the Stade Municipal was renamed Stade Messaoud Zougar .

Due to financial and infrastructural difficulties, the club played a minor role in Algerian football in the 80s and 90s, so that one oscillated between second and third class.

Athletic promotion (2001 to 2015)

Only for the 2001/02 season succeeded for these reasons, the return to the second division, where you could establish yourself in the following years. Finally, you could celebrate winning the Algerian second division championship in June 2008, so that the MC El Eulma played first class in the club's history for the 2008-2009 season. So you could reach a single-digit place in the table (8th) this season. After narrowly escaping relegation in the following two years, the team stabilized again between 2011 and 2013.

Since the mid-2000s, El Eulma has proven to be a career springboard for some later senior international players, such as Abdelmoumene Djabou , Amir Karaoui and Ahmed Gasmi . The greatest success in the club's history was achieved by reaching fourth place in the table in the 2013/14 season, through which one was entitled to participate in the CAF Champions League for the first time in 2015 due to the disqualification of JS Kabylie .

With the nomination of Ibrahim Chenihi in October 2014, the club provided an Algerian senior international for the first time since the 1960s, who finally made his debut on March 26, 2015 in a friendly against Qatar.

In the Champions League, MC El Eulma was able to reach the group stage and thus round of eight with a 7-6 win on penalties against the 2006 finalist, CS Sfax , from Tunisia on May 3, 2015 .

Despite the successful international appearances, the club increasingly lost constancy in league games. In addition to the most successful attack in the league with 40 goals, Walid Derrardja was also the top scorer. In addition, they achieved a 3-0 victory over ASM Oran on the last matchday of the 2014/15 season, which was not enough to avoid relegation. After the season ended in 14th place, club president Arras Herada and coach Jules Accorsi resigned.

The venue for MC El Eulma is the Stade Messaoud Zougar , which can accommodate 25,000 spectators.
