The MEW Medium Energy Germany eV is an umbrella organization of independent energy middle class in Germany. Through its member associations, the MEW unites around 3,000 medium-sized energy companies with a turnover of around 35 billion euros and represents their interests in politics. MEW is a member of the European umbrella organization UPEI .

history

The predecessor organization was the interest group of medium-sized mineral oil associations founded in Bonn in 1971, which campaigned for the interests of the medium-sized mineral oil industry in Germany. As a closer association, the joint umbrella association MEW, the medium-sized mineral oil and energy industry Germany eV, was founded in 2008. At the beginning of 2011, the umbrella association was also opened to those associations and companies that are not predominantly active in the mineral oil business, but that basically see themselves as medium-sized energy suppliers. In addition, the association was renamed MEW Mittelständische Energiewirtschaft Deutschland eV while retaining the abbreviation.
