Marquard & Bahls is a Hamburg- based company that operates in the fields of energy supply , trading and logistics. The central business areas include trading, tank storage logistics and aircraft refueling. Marquard & Bahls was founded in 1947 and has been organized as a stock corporation under commercial law since 1992 . The group is represented in 35 countries worldwide. At the end of 2018, the entire company had 7,561 employees (2017: 7,727). 2018, the company generated sales (incl. Energy tax) of 14.728 billion euro (2017: 13.509 billion euros).

Business areas

Marquard & Bahls is organized as a holding company and operates in several business areas through its subsidiaries :

  • Mabanaft is the trading organization of Marquard & Bahls. The business includes regional trade and the wholesale of petroleum products . In addition, the company operates in the fields of bunker services , petrol stations and - heating oil - consumer business and trade in LPG , biofuels and bio-fuels . The annual sales volume is around 20.8 million tons (as of May 2019).
  • Oiltanking is one of the largest independent tank storage providers for petroleum products, chemicals and gases worldwide. The company owns and operates 70 tank terminals in 23 countries with a total capacity of 20 million cubic meters (as of October 2019). In 2018, the total throughput was around 153 million tons.
  • Skytanking offers services related to aircraft refueling. The company refuels around 2 million aircraft per year with a throughput of more than 23.2 million m³ of jet fuel (as of May 2019). In addition to apron refueling, the range of services also includes the operation of tank terminals and hydrant systems as well as the planning, financing and construction of these systems. Customers include airlines , airports and oil companies . Skytanking is represented at 83 airports in 14 countries in Europe , Asia , Africa and America (as of September 2019.)

Leadership and supervision

Mark Garrett has been the CEO of the non- listed company since August 2018 . Daniel Weisser has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board since March 2017 .

history

Theodor Weisser , the company founded in 1947 by buying the company Marquard & Bahls. This company was founded in 1913 and had traded in grain and lubricants ever since . At the time of the takeover , only the corporate shell existed. Theodor Weisser started trading in heating oil and lubricants and gradually expanded the business activities in the following years. In the mid-1950s, the company also got into tank storage. In the 1960s, in particular, the foreign activities were expanded. The trading subsidiary Mabanaft played an important role in the development of the Rotterdam spot market .

In 1972, the tank terminals belonging to Marquard & Bahls were merged in the subsidiary Oiltanking , which marked the beginning of the development of an independent tank storage service provider. In the 1990s, a private gas station organization was re-established, now under the brand OIL! operates. In addition, there had been activities in the heating oil end-consumer business since the 1980s, which in 1996 were bundled under the umbrella of Petronord . In 1999, Marquard & Bahls entered aircraft refueling. and continuously expanded this business field, which operates under the name Skytanking , in the following years. Since 2002 Marquard & Bahls has also been active in the field of renewable energies. Up until 2018, this included biofuels trading at Mabanaft as well as biogas . The subsidiary Mabagas implemented biogas projects based on organic residues from the end of 2008 to 2018.

In 2008 and 2011, Marquard & Bahls acquired shares in Newsco companies through Oiltanking . In 2014, Marquard & Bahls obtained a majority in Newsco with further investments . In March 2017, all shares in Newsco International Energy Services were sold. In May 2012, Oiltanking acquired United Bulk Terminals in the USA . Since the end of 2014, this division had been part of Marquard & Bahls until United Bulk Terminals was sold in September 2019. In August 2019, Marquard & Bahls also sold its stake in natGAS, Potsdam, to the previous co-partner Friedrich Scharr KG, Stuttgart.
