history

Today's "Energy Information Service" was founded by Alfred Martin Stahmer and appeared for the first time on July 1, 1947 as "Petroleum Information Service". Stahmer was one of the first to receive permission to publish a press product in Hamburg after the Second World War (license no. 4 of the Senate of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg). He ran the "Petroleum Information Service" until 1985. From 1963 to 1982 he was also the editor of the "OEL" magazine, which in 1983 was partly incorporated into the "Petroleum Information Service". The Handelsblatt- Verlag then took over the EID, Rainer Winzenried was the editor-in-chief, Heiner Radzio as the publisher. As a result, the reporting of the EID was expanded to include the natural gas industry and the layout was modernized for the first time. In 1991 Heino Elfert took over the editor-in-chief, from 1999 he also acted as a publisher after a management buyout. Elfert changed the name of the publication to “Energy Information Service” in order to reflect the changes in the German energy industry and the broader range of topics. In 2007 he sold the EID to the Süddeutscher Verlag. The "Petroleum Information Service" was also published bi-weekly as the "German Oil Information Service" in English until 1986.
