history

Branch of the siding from the Bitterfeld – Stumsdorf railway line to the bioethanol plant in Zörbig

Claus Sauter founded an oil mill in 1995 , and in 2000 he and Georg Pollert built a plant for the production of biodiesel in Bitterfeld. In 2005, two bioethanol production plants, in Zörbig and Schwedt, and a second biodiesel plant in Schwedt went into operation. In May 2006, the previous individual companies were merged to form what is now “Verbio Vereinigte BioEnergie AG”. This acts as the parent company , the operational business lies with the subsidiaries. With effect from October 16, 2006, the company's shares were listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange . In 2009, the construction of biogas plants started in Zörbig and Schwedt, which were put into operation the following year. Verbio started the pilot project for straw processing for biogas production and international expansion into Eastern Europe back in 2011.

Products

Verbiodiesel

Verbio produces biodiesel exclusively from renewable raw materials such as rapeseed. One liter of Verbiodiesel reduces the CO 2 emissions compared to fossil diesel by 1.7 kg per 100 kilometers driven. This corresponds to a CO 2 saving of 62%. In addition, there is practically no waste in biodiesel production, only high-quality by-products that are either fed back into the production process or refined into pharmaceutical glycerine . Verbio also extracts phytosterols from the vegetable oil used . These are used as cholesterol-lowering drugs in food or in the manufacture of hormone preparations.

Verbioethanol

The company mostly uses rye and triticale to produce bioethanol. Over 95% of the raw materials are obtained from regional partners in agriculture. Bioethanol is mainly used as an admixture to gasoline and contributes to considerable CO 2 savings in the fuel sector.

Verbiogas

The company uses residual materials such as B. straw or stillage to produce biogas from renewable energy sources. These sources do not compete with food. The biogas is technically upgraded to natural gas quality and fed into the existing natural gas network. One then speaks of biomethane. Verbio markets its biomethane from residues as biofuel for natural gas vehicles. The company is the largest biomethane supplier in Germany and so far the only one in the world that has technologically mastered the production of biomethane from straw on an industrial scale. Verbiogas achieves CO 2 savings of up to 90%. In addition, it avoids fine dust and nitrogen oxide pollution.

Biorefinery

The company's biorefinery is a system network consisting of bioethanol and biomethane systems. The stillage produced as waste in the production of ethanol is converted into biogas by fermentation and then brought to natural gas quality. The inorganic components are extracted and processed into a bio-liquid fertilizer. The fertilizer goes back to agriculture. In addition to the closed production cycle , the principle of sustainability is also pursued through the strategy of regional value creation: around 95% of the raw materials required for the production of bioethanol and biomethane are obtained from the immediate vicinity of the biofuel plants.
