MGM was launched on April 1, 2003 on the Premiere platform in the Premiere Thema package. With the switch to Sky, the channel switched to the Sky Film package. MGM offered its complete program in two-channel sound , giving viewers the choice between the German language version and the original version. Several western classics are shown one after the other once a week .

On January 2, 2017, broadcasting ceased.

Since May 23, 2017, MGM is back in Germany and Austria as an on-demand offer on Amazon Channels .

The station was broadcast nationwide on the Sky Deutschland platform, both via satellite and cable. A subscription to the film package (Sky D / AT) or entertainment package (Teleclub CH) was required for reception.

MGM Channel in other countries

MGM Channel Germany, MGM Channel Canada , MGM Channel USA and MGM Channel UK are the last stations that are still operated under this name by MGM alone. In Brazil and Australia, the MGM Channel broadcasts as a joint venture between MGM and local partners. All other channels that exist internationally were sold by MGM to Chellomedia in 2012. Chellomedia itself now operates under the name AMC Networks International . AMC Networks announced on August 4, 2014 that it would replace the MGM Channel worldwide with AMC . Germany is not affected by the change due to the different ownership structure.
