MSC Software (own spelling MSC.Software , short for MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation ) develops CAE software for simulation and virtual product development. The company, which has existed since 1963, is described as one of the ten oldest (alongside, among others, IBM , Microsoft and Apple ) who founded the software development company market . According to their own information, 900 of the 1000 most important manufacturing companies in a wide variety of industries worldwide (including energy supply, aviation and the automotive industry) use products and services from MSC.Software.

history

The company, headquartered in Newport Beach, California, was founded in 1963 by Dr. Richard MacNeal and Robert Schwendler founded. At this time the company developed its first software for structural analysis: SADSAM (for Structural Analysis by Digital Simulation of Analog Methods ). At the same time, MSC.Software worked closely with the aviation industry to improve technologies for the finite element method (FEM). In 1965 MSC.Software developed a universally applicable FEM program with NASA . This program became known as NASTRAN (short for Nasa Structural Analysis System ) and is considered to be the pioneer of all later FEM programs. In the course of its company's history, MSC.Software has developed or purchased many other CAE applications, including Patran, Adams, Marc, Dytran, SimDesigner, SimManager, Easy5, Sinda and Fluid Connection.

Products

The MSC.Software product portfolio includes:

However, the key to effective and efficient product development is not just the use of innovative software; added value is created through sustainable improvement in software communication. The trend is moving away from individual simulation tools towards an overall solution that can be integrated company-wide into business processes. MSC.Software has therefore integrated the separate CAE tools into standardized, multidisciplinary solvers and user environments. With MSC's software, engineers are able to improve the reliability and realism of their virtual prototypes and create more accurate forecasts for a wide variety of physical and multidisciplinary interactions.

The most important solutions from MSC.Software are:

  • MSC Nastran: Solver for structural analyzes and finite element calculations in the areas of statics , dynamics and acoustics
  • Adams: Multi-body simulation program for kinematic and kinetic analyzes that can realistically simulate and animated the movement behavior of 3-dimensional mechanical systems
  • MSC Apex: Uniform CAE environment for virtual product development - MSC Apex offers innovative technologies for geometry preparation, for example automatically generating and connecting central surfaces or moving edges and surfaces interactively. This speeds up the process from the CAD model to the finished mesh.
  • Digimat: Digital materials laboratory closes the gap between injection molding - structural mechanics & takes into account manufacturing process-related influences in the form of fiber orientations
  • Actran: A solution that can analyze all acoustic and vibroacoustic phenomena and improve the acoustic performance of products
  • Marc: FEM program that is used for non-linear structural analysis of large deformations of plastics and hyperelastic materials
  • Simufact: Forming and welding simulation - a wide range of forming and joining processes and special procedures can be simulated
  • Dytran: FV solution for the analysis of complex, non-linear behavior, which includes permanent deformation of material properties or fluid-structure coupling
  • Patran: Pre and post-processing program for modeling and creating or editing geometry
  • SimManager: Web-based, hardware-independent system for the management and automation of simulation data and processes
  • SimXpert: User environment for CAE experts to carry out and automate all phases of the simulation process in an integrated, multidisciplinary work environment
  • SimDesigner: CAD -integrated simulation solution that provides designers with efficient access to a wide range of integrated simulation tools

Business areas

MSC.Software solutions are mainly used in the aerospace, automotive and manufacturing industries. The software is also being used more and more in machine tool construction , transport, (bio) medicine, telecommunications, electronics and consumer goods industries as well as in universities and other training institutions.
