The mSE Kunsthalle in Unterammergau is a museum that presents contemporary art in changing exhibitions and in the sculpture garden. The director of the museum is Dr. Andreas Klement.

History and construction

The mSE Kunsthalle was opened in autumn 2019. The museum is operated by mSE Solutions, whose owner and managing director Christian Zott has been initiating exhibitions and art projects since 2014. Exhibition rooms in Singapore, Sankt Kassian and Munich were operated under the name ZOTT Artspace . The art project KAIROS. The right moment reached the general public in Venice, Hamburg and Vienna and opened the mSE Kunsthalle as the first exhibition. The groundbreaking for the museum building was in March 2018. The museum is part of an ensemble with a restaurant, conference rooms and boutique hotel. The architect of the building ensemble is Thomas Wild from the Swiss architecture firm Wild Bär Heule . Wild complemented a modern building method with influences from the local building tradition, with deep canopies and wooden struts in front of the facade.

The works exhibited in the mSE Kunsthalle come from the Christian Zott and mSE Solutions collections, supplemented by loans. In addition to the works of contemporary artists such as Lois Anvidalfarei and Bruno Wank , works from the late 20th century by Norbert Tadeusz and Giuseppe Spagnulo as well as individual masterpieces from the early 20th century are shown. These include works by Ernst Barlach as well as Great Minds and Rising Youth by Wilhelm Lehmbruck . A particularly striking work in the collection is the 32.4 meter high spatial and sound sculpture SICHTUNG by Hildegard Rasthofer and Christian Neumaier, which towers above the building ensemble and can be viewed on a guided tour.

The exhibition KAIROS. The right moment is also part of the mSE Kunsthalle collection. The exhibition is based on an idea by Christian Zott and combines photographs from the Treasure Rooms series by the Italian photographer Mauro Fiorese with paintings by Wolfgang Beltracchi .
